How much does a website cost for a small business
The short answer is: it depends on how many pages you need and whether someone is going to maintain it afterwards. Here's the useful answer.
Why the price varies so much
A one-page website (hours, services, contact) is a couple of days' work. A website with several sections, a booking form, a blog or a shop is a different project. When you see quotes ranging from €150 to €3,000 for "a website", they're almost always talking about different things: number of pages, whether the copy needs writing, whether you need professional photos, and whether the price covers only the design or also the domain, email and maintenance.
What you should know before asking for a quote
- Does the price include the domain (yourwebsite.com), or is it bought separately?
- Does it include a professional email (hello@yourwebsite.com), or just the website?
- What happens if in 6 months you need to change the hours or add a photo? Does that cost extra?
- Who owns the domain if the company building your site registers it?
- How long does it really take to be ready?
Maintenance is the part almost nobody asks about
A website isn't a one-off cost if you want it to keep working: the domain needs renewing, it needs to stay updated, and it needs to stay online. Many businesses pay once, forget about it, and a year later the site has a security issue, the domain expired without warning, or nobody knows how to change a simple phone number. Before hiring anyone, ask explicitly what happens in month 13.
At Velqia we build complete websites from €199 (one-off payment, includes mobile-first design, SSL and up to 2 months of maintenance included) and we make clear from the start what's yours, what's optional and what each thing costs afterwards. You can combine it with Velqia's smart assistant so it answers your customers' questions 24/7 without you having to be behind it.
